Hug Your Farmer: Seeds of Better Food

In part 3 of our series, Tom Stearns explains how High Mowing Seeds grows more than 1000 varieties of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers for home gardeners and commercial growers to evaluate ones that thrive under organic conditions. If you’re eating organic food in this country, there’s a good chance it started in the research fields of this 40 acre farm. Here, the grow and evaluate old heirloom varieties along with “brand spanking new varieties” to test for taste, disease resistance and uniformity. “We are looking for those that don’t just do well under organic conditions,” Tom explains, “but really thrive under organic conditions.”
