Another impressive green milestone was achieved by PepsiCo last week when the company announced that its Chicago corporate headquarters has received the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The offices earned the certification in recognition for reducing energy use by 10 percent, cutting water to 37 percent below Energy Policy Act performance standads and elimating close to 226 metric tons of CO2 emissions through energy saving initiatives.

“Our LEED certification is a tremendous accomplishment and a testament to the passion of our employees who created a ‘Green Team’ devoted to making environmental responsibility an integral part of our corporate culture,” said Jim Lynch, senior vice president North America Beverages Supply Chain. The Green Team focused on energy savings, waste reduction, recycling and programs that improved air quality within the building, and the group is now working with other PepsiCo office buildings across the country to encourage greater environmental responsibility and LEED certification of other PepsiCo office buildings.
